
In presence of Presidents of France and Kenya, Emmanuel Macron and William Ruto and representatives of Kenya Railways Corporation, CIM had the honor of signing a major contract on May 10th for the modernization of the railway line connecting Nairobi Central Station to Embasaki Village (Line 5)
This project will be carried out by a consortium comprising UNIFER via UIF France, our company CIM (subsidiary of John Cockerill), our local division UNICIM, Egis and Infra AFE, bringing together complementary expertise in railway engineering, systems, construction and integration.
This project is part of the strategic partnership between France and Kenya aimed at developing sustainable, efficient and safe transport infrastructure.
The modernization of Line 5 will help to significantly improve the capacity, safety and reliability of rail transport in the Nairobi metropolitan area.

The railway equipment for the project will be manufactured in France. The consortium will draw on a strong local presence to ensure the project is implemented effectively and sustainably, whilst helping to develop local skills.
Through this project, France and Kenya are reaffirming their shared commitment to promoting more sustainable urban mobility by offering a reliable and efficient alternative to road transport, incorporating best practices in safety, environmental performance and technological innovation.

CIM is expanding its international reach, particularly in Africa, through this major modernization contract. The company continues to develop long-term relationships and partnerships, enabling it to deliver locally rooted rail projects.
Among its past achievements, CIM delivered large-scale rail projects such as metro lines of Santo Domingo and Panama, Cuenca’s tram in Ecuador, the TER from Dakar in Senegal, diesel locomotives for Tunisia’ SNCFT and Setrag/Comilog in Gabon (in partnership with Progress Rail) as well as the construction of Villeneuve’s Demain maintenance workshops with Eiffage Rail in France.
